
Where are you located?
The GLBC rental hut is located on North Ave Beach, just south of Castaways bar and grill, on the bike path. Look for the big yellow paddle board in front! For more info, visit the contact page.
What if the weather SAYS it’s going to be bad the day of my reservation?
This is Chicago, and the weather changes often. If you are questioning the weather the DAY OF your intended paddle, feel free to call the DAY OF to double check that we are still open.
NOTE: GLBC does not know what the weather will be like next Thursday, and the weather folks don’t usually know either. So be patient, and don’t miss GREAT days on the water because your weather app is showing a picture of a lightning bolt…
Do I need to take a lesson?
Lessons are not required, but recommended for beginners. As with any new sport, it is important to learn the basics and proper techniques. While many days present calm/ easy waters, other days present more challenging conditions. Knowing the right fundamentals will be beneficial in all situations.
Is there a place to store my belongings while I’m on the water?
Yes, we can store basic items in the hut.
How many people per board?
1 rider per board
What is the minimum age for children?
A lot depends on conditions and ability level, but we have had children as young as 8 out paddling. GLBC will make the final decision regarding if conditions permit younger children.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept cash or credit
Where should I park?
Parking at North Avenue Beach is limited, especially on weekends. If you do drive, and the beach lot is full, you can try the Lincoln Park Zoo parking lot, entrance off of Fullerton, 1 exit North on LSD Public transportation, biking, or hoofing it is highly recommended.
What should I wear?
Bathing suit, sunscreen, and a smile
